I love to make herbal condiments throughout the year. I also love sharing them with you -- Milk Thistle Gomasio is delicious + so very easy to make, with powerful support for our liver.(as a bonus!)
Herbal condiments can be made fresh and we can control the ingredients. I make lots of different kinds. Here's a fun and informative post with some 'wild seasonsings'
Why am I using Milk Thistle you may ask?
Milk Thistle is a star player for liver conditions as well as an antioxidant with an affinity for the liver and has a special gift:
protecting the liver from the harmful affects of toxins. Milk Thistle has a tonic and regenerating affect on the liver.
This powerful healer's seeds contain silymarin. Research indicates that silymarin helps to restore liver function and helps to improve digestion in situations where when damage has occurred from 'general toxicity' as well as alcohol, drugs, radiation, mushroom poisoning, toxic chemicals, or heavy metals.
Regular use can reduce excess cholesterol in the blood and inhibit the formation of plaque.
Herbs can indeed help us to feel better. Herbs CAN HELP -- We just need to figure out ways to ingest lots of herbs to be able to benefit from their healing attributes.
In this case, with milk thistle as an herb "of interest", let's make a tasty condiment which can be added daily to our meals; creating a situation where we are quite literally supporting ourselves, our liver in particular.
Milk Thistle Gomasio
In this 'adapted' recipe, I’ve used toasted sesame seeds along with hemp seeds, milk thistle seeds, and a touch of your favourite 'good salt'.
This combination creates a mineral dense, liver supportive, nourishing + healthy condiment! Milk Thistle seeds can be a wonderful support for your liver.
Herbalists traditionally use Milk Thistle seeds, tinctured, alone or in formulae in many digestive and hepato-trophic tonics.
Here's a post all about the fabulousness of Milk Thistle medicine.
I like to use the seeds whenever possible, in tasty condiments like this one.
