I infuse herbs into pretty much anything and everything. Maybe you know that about me. Maybe you are an herbalist or herb 'nut' too! Maybe you'd just like to make something special with a bottle of wine.. I make wine infusions all year long with lots of different combinations. Writing today to share an idea that you can make this week in time for a special celebration .. Here's an idea for you. It's a sensual infused red wine. We need to make it in advance, however, so get busy.
Remember to have happy, flirtatious thoughts while putting this together!
It's SO easy to make and you can vary the infusion, based on what's on hand and what feels good or sounds good.. or (giggle) what you have on hand!
Love-Infused Wine
Ingredients
- 1 glass jar 1 litre or 1 quart size
- 2 teaspoon cinnamon powder or 2 cinnamon sticks
- 3 teaspoon ginger root powder or fresh ginger root peeled about 1 inch long
- option 1 -- 1 inch piece of vanilla bean or 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- or option 2 -- 2 cardamom pods + 2 star anise
- 3 cups red wine or one 750 ml bottle
Instructions
-
Add the red wine to the jar
-
Add the herbal components
-
Stir to mix ingredients.
-
Place lid on the jar. Put into a cool, dark cupboard for 3-5 days.
-
Strain well (or 2x) into another jar or a pretty glass decanter. It's ready!!!
Recipe Notes
Note: If using vanilla bean, score it lengthwise and add to the jar. (I normally use my own home-made vanilla extract because it's easy to use if 'on hand') BY THE WAY: if you have a vanilla bean, you can always put the excess into some organic sugar in a small jar and make 'vanilla sugar')
This concoction "Love-Infused Wine" as I call it.. is a pleasant 'sipper' or makes a lovely beverage which goes with lots of different appetizers or cheeses and charcuterie - or desserts!
Years ago, I was inspired by a wonderful creative herbalist named Diana DeLuca.
Diana taught for many years at the Women's Herbal Conference, created by Rosemary Gladstar. (it still takes place in August in New Hampshire!) I regularly attended any and all of her classes.
She wrote a fabulous book, which has inspired me over and over! It's called "Botanica Erotica". You can buy it online here.
Stay tuned -- I will share some more of Diana's ideas soon. She believes, as does Rosie, as do I -- that we need to embrace life. Strive for best health -- and use love-infused wine as well as other concoctions where we infuse our passion into our brews, our meals, our every day!!
Motto: Live a moist + juicy life. Here's to living with joy.
I looked for it locally and couldn't find it so including the Amazon link in case you want to learn more!
(just like any affiliate link to Amazon or other affiliate partner, I may receive a small commission, but the purchase price is exactly the same for you!)
May we live in love and with love and infuse this love into life.
Here's to your health and happiness. Here's to our beloveds.. xo Carol

I remember as a child, the older men in my family always infused wine with medicinal herbs. I think it was very cultural where I come from. The alcohol also helps deliver the medicinal properties of the herbs I guess. :)

Wow, it sounds fabulous with the ginger!
