Sometimes, we need a little extra boost. It's a busy life, after all. Without relying on caffeine for that daily boost, there are some helpful ideas in the green world. Coffee, by the way, in small doses (i.e. 1-2 cups) daily can be tolerated by many. It is a gastro-intestinal upsetter, for lots of people though so I thought I'd share one of my herb-infused booster drinks, as an alternative. I hope you'll try this easy energizing tonic!
What can we change, one choice at a time, which can be life-enhancing?
Over the years, I've experimented with some tasty bevvies for the deck or dock or after time spent in the garden. One of my favourites may surprise you. How can a recipe with cayenne be a warm weather pick? It's nourishing and truly 'tonic' to the body. I make this one year 'round!
Try this easy ENERGIZING tonic!*
Energizing Tonic
Ingredients
- ½ teaspoon Cayenne powder
- ½- tablespoon Ginger root powder or 1 teaspoon fresh ginger, grated
- ½ tablespoon Turmeric organic if possible, powder
- 4 tablespoon Lemon juice
- 1 litre room temperature good quality water~ optional real maple syrup or Stevia ~ just a tiny 'slurp'
Instructions
-
Combine all of the ingredients in a large pitcher (or I use a 1 litre canning jar).
-
Bring water to the boil, in a pot or your kettle.
-
When the water temperature cools down a little, add it to the herbs.
-
Stir well.
-
Leave on your counter + sip this throughout the day.
-
Stir (or if using a canning jar with lid, it's easy to shake it up a bit) each time you take more
-
to ensure that the herbs are 'in suspension' and not on the bottom of the container.
Recipe Notes
Make this without the sweeteners first. Add only if your taste buds not happy; or for a change.
It doesn't need the sweeteners but I confess some mornings, a tiny hit of maple syrup is welcome!
It's easy to throw together and will store in the fridge for a couple of days. Want to change up the flavours a little? Add your own favourite ingredients to the mix. I've made this with lime and orange. I've added nutmeg (to enhance memory!) as well. There are lots of additions which will only add more power to this energizing tonic!
It's important to note that:
This tonic is also anti-inflammatory, anti-arthritic, immune-boosting, detoxifying + nourishing!
ENJOY !!!

This sounds fantastic! Would you recommend drinking the entire liter in one day? Or how much if you're just wanting a little pick me up?
