With the cold blustery days finally behind us,(for most of us anyway!) we turn our faces to the warmth of the sun and SPRINGTIME!
It's a time for lightening up -- for lighter meal choices and lots of GREENS! We can use our food as medicine--choosing anti-inflammatory 'kitchen medicine" and detoxifying foods as well. I love to write all about spring herbs and healthy ideas for each season. Shedding the winter clothes, and maybe a little winter 'weight'? Detox Bathing is a super habit in both spring and autumn. There are several ways to enjoy a detoxifying bath.
I have 2 favourites in detox bathing department to share today and a link to 'tub tea', with a list of soothing, healing herbs for you!
DETOX BATHING #1 :
- 2 cups Epsom Salt - draws out toxins from your body while relieving aches and pains(see here for more on Epsom Salts)
- 1 cup Apple Cider Vinegar - soothes and soften dry, itchy skin while balancing the bodies and neutralizing the bodies pH.
- ½ cup Bentonite Clay - draws toxins out of the body, stimulates the lymphatic system + immune system
- 5-10 drops of your favorite Essential Oil - geranium, lavender, sandalwood, or ylang ylang are all known for their detoxifying properties.
Run a warm bath (as hot as is comfortable)
Add your the ingredients and "SWISH" your water about, to dissolve. Soak in your tub for 20 minutes. Drink a full glass of water with a aduring or afterwards. Think happy thoughts. Suggest locking the door -- to ensure private time just for you!
DETOX BATHING #2:
This one starts off the same but switches out the clay and adds baking soda--Look for the brands which do not contain aluminum. Note: I use Epsom salts primarily, but there are many mineral salts that can be used; famed 'dead sea salts' or my favourite culinary salt -->pink Himalayan salt. You can change it up and use what's on hand or easy to find.
This is easy to combine and store in a large jar, ready to use. It's really about SIMPLE pleasures that are life-enhancing!

As a passionate herbgal, my other favourite ways to enjoy a healing bath, are akin to making a strong herbal tea in a pot and dumping it into the bath water OR placing healing herbal combinations in a big tea bag which makes a delightful "tub tea".
Check out this post for my versions of TUB TEA and find some great ideas to make healing baths!
Do you have a favourite way to unwind in the bath? I mean, besides, candlelight & wine!

These are such good ideas! Funny story... one time I grated up fresh ginger root to add it to a bath, and it made my skin feel SO weird! I stick to Epsom salts and clay now! LOL

Ah what a great post! I don't do this nearly enough and I know just how beneficial detox baths are. You're motivating me to actually take the time and do it!

These look so awesome Carol! I wish we had a bathtub to use, but right now we are in a rental and someone painted the tub with latex paint. So we haven't been using it as I don't want latex paint in my bath. :( we have been going to the mineral springs every chance we get, and then I do footbaths whenever possible. I need to start footbaths again, so this is a good reminder! Pinned!!

Footbaths, Raine, are definitely the way to go for you, right now! LMK if you have any questions!

I love this site, and these "recipes" for detoxing. I'll actually be using these now as I took a short trip and went off my clean diet for a few days, now I feel sluggish and bloated. I know I'll be right as rain after some greens, turmeric and dandelion root; oh and a nice Epsom salts bath.

Drink plenty of water, before and after this bath. Also, best to do it on an empty stomach.
Very rejuvenating!
